Course Description
This diploma qualification is part of the newly introduced ACCA Foundations in Accountancy suite of awards. It is suitable for those students who have completed the Introductory Certificate and wish to continue on to the next level or anyone looking to do an introductory qualification in accounting and finance, including school leavers or those already working in accounts-support roles.

The subjects/units studied in this course forms part of the subjects/units of the ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) course as well as the Knowledge Module of the ACCA Qualification Fundamental Level. This means while students wishing to obtain the CAT qualification will be required to complete 6 subjects/units, those students registered on the ACCA Qualification will have completed the Knowledge Module of the ACCA Qualification Fundamental Level at the end of the course.

MAPS College will begin to offer this course on MAPS Fast Track from September 2011 onwards as a standalone course.

Awarding Body
Certificate for this course will be awarded by the the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Academic Requirements
ACCA does not require any previous academic qualifications to study for this certificate. However to get the Certificate recognized under MNQF one of the following entry requirements is  necessary:
» Completed ACCA Introductory Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting
» Completed ACCA Intermediate Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting
» O Level pass in Accounting (C or above) or equivalent pass in Accounting and 1 year work experience in the accounting field
» A Level pass in Accounting (E or above)
» MNQF Level 4 qualification

Course Structure
Compulsory Subjects:
» Foundations in Professionalism (Online module that needs to be completed once. More)
» Accountant in Business (FAB)
» Management Accounting (FMA)
» Financial Accounting (FFA)

There are no Optional Subjects.

Duration: 6 months on the MAPS Fast Track

Intakes: Every month (from September 2011)

Course Assessments
All subjects will be assessed by time constrained online computer based exams that are set and marked by ACCA, UK. The exams will be conducted and invigilated by MAPS College.

Pathway
Students who achieve the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business may use it as a standalone qualification which would allow them to work in a variety of roles such as basic bookkeeping, trainee accountant in a commercial organisation or accounting practice and so on. Alternatively, students can continue to work through to the ACCA Certified Accounting Technicain (CAT) or the ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business (which is also the  Skills Module of the Fundamental Level of the ACCA Qualification. The latter progression route is subject to MQA approval.
