Course Description
The course will provide the computer hardware knowledge and skills required to carry out basic computer related technical tasks at organizations. The aim of the course is to produce students who would be able to efficiently assemble and maintain computers at the technical service level in government offices as well as private organizations.
The subjects will be delivered through workshop sessions where students will be given a demonstrations and practical hands on activities.

Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum entry requirements:
- Completion of the 6th year of School AND ability to communicate in English language
- 16 years old AND ability to communicate in English language
Candidates without the above requirements shall be evaluated on an individual basis, utilizing individual interviews to judge candidates’ ability to follow this course.
Course Structure
Compulsory Subjects:
- Module 1: System Components:
- Identify the motherboard components and their functions. Learn how to install, configure, maintain and replace components inside the computer system.
- Work with computer storage devices. Learn to install, configure, maintain and replace magnetic and optical storage devices.
- Install and maintain computer Power Supply Unit.
- Identify the purpose and characteristics of Central Processing Unit and their features. Learn to install, upgrade and replace CPU and cooler fans.
- Identify computer memory types, their characteristics and purpose. Learn to install, upgrade and replace computer memory.
- Understand different display devices and their characteristics. Learn to install and configure display devices and replace faulty displays devices.
- Module 2: Computer Peripherals and Assembly
- Understand the functionality of various computer peripherals. Learn to install, configure and maintain computer peripherals and input devices.
- Assemble and disassemble computer systems. Understand proper procedures in assembling and disassembling of systems.
- Module 3: Operating System and Application Software
- Understand and practice the steps involved in installation and configuration of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. Learn to install drivers and installation of various productivity software.
- Learn to deploy multiple computers on production environment.
There are no Optional Subjects.
Duration: 5 weeks
Intakes: Throughout the year.
Course Assessments
All subjects will be assessed by time constrained exams that are set and marked by MAPS College.

Pathway
Students who achieve the MAPS Certificate I in Computer Hardware can continue to work through to the MAPS Certificate II in Information Technology.
