Course Description
MAPS Associate Degree in Accounting and Business qualification provides learners with a broad understanding of Accounting concepts and selected business functions. It also promotes the development of essential workplace skills demanded by employers. The qualification is suitable for individuals already in work or looking to start their career in a range of accounting job roles, and supports progression to management level roles on completion.

The qualification is unique to the Maldives in that it directly incorporates the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) and three units from the ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business within its content. That means students will receive the MAPS College Associate Degree in Accounting and Business AND the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) on completion of specific units.

The qualification can also be extended to a three year Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MNQF Level 7).

Awarding Body
The Associate Degree in Accounting and Business certificate for this course is awarded by MAPS College. The ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) and three units from the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business are awarded by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum entry requirements:

  • 2 A’ Level passes (E or above)
  • 2 HSSC passes (C or above)
  • MNQF Level 4 Qualification in a related field
  • MNQF Level 4 Qualification in an unrelated field, AND successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program
  • 20 years old AND completion of the 10th year of School AND 2 years of work experience in a relevant field, AND successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program

  • Year 1:
    • Business and Technology (ACCA unit FBT / BT) (Note: This unit was called Accountant in Business (FAB / AB) until September 2020)
    • Management Accounting (ACCA unit FMA / MA)
    • Financial Accounting (ACCA unit FFA / FA)
    • Two Optional Units
  • Year 2:
    • Three units from the following (three units will be pre-selected based on the date students join the course):
      • Corporate and Business Law (ACCA unit LW)
      • Performance Management (ACCA unit PM)
      • Taxation (ACCA unit TX)
      • Financial Reporting (ACCA unit FR)
      • Audit and Assurance (ACCA unit AA)
      • Financial Management (ACCA unit FM)
    • Two Optional Units

Duration: 2 academic years

Credits: 240 credits

Intakes: February, June, August, November.

Mode of Study: Face to Face (Male’ Campus) AND Online

Course Assessments
The six Accounting units are assessed by time constrained online computer based exams that are set and marked by ACCA, UK. The exams are conducted and invigilated by MAPS College. The four optional units are assessed by time constrained written examinations. Some optional subjects also include assignments and presentations.

Pathway
Students who complete the MAPS Associate Degree in Accounting and Business may use it as a standalone qualification or progress onto the final year of the MAPS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business. Students may also choose to progress onto an ABE Level 6 Diploma in Business Management, Human Resources or Marketing, or apply for entry to the University of Bedfordshire BA Business Administration (Final Year) programme on a case-by-case basis. Finally, students may also choose to complete three remaining ACCA units to achieve the full ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business (Applied Skills).
