Course Description
The BSc in Applied Accounting programme  is a unique partnership between Oxford Brookes University and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, whereby ACCA students can gain a BSc Honours degree in Applied Accounting qualification of the University whilst they work towards achieving the ACCA qualification.
The degree has been jointly designed by Oxford Brookes University and ACCA to meet the academic requirements of a degree and those of a professional qualification in accountancy.
As a learning provider for ACCA courses in the Maldives, MAPS College is offering tuition for ACCA papers and mentoring for the Research and Analysis Project leading to the award of the Oxford Brookes University BSc (Hons) Applied Accounting.

This honours degree will be  awarded directly by the Oxford Brookes University (OBU).

Academic Requirements
Applicants must completed ONE of the academic requirements from either of the following routes to be accepted into the course:
ACCA Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) Route:
- Completion of ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3) or
- MNQF Level 4 qualification in a related field or
- 2 A level/HSSC passes or
- MNQF Level 4 qualification in an unrelated field AND University Preparation Program or
- 20 years old AND completion of secondary school AND 2 years of relevant work experience AND University Preparation Program
ACCA Qualification Route:Â
- 2 A’ Level pass and 3 O’ Level pass (Must include O’Level English & Maths) or
- Completion of ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3)
Course Structure
Compulsory Subjects:
- ACCA: Foundations in Professionalism (Online module that needs to be completed once. More)
- Business and Technology (ACCA unit FBT / BT)Â (Note: This unit was called Accountant in Business (FAB / AB) until September 2020)
- ACCA:Â Management Accounting (FMA / MA)
- ACCA:Â Financial Accounting (FFA / FA)
- ACCA:Â Corporate and Business Law (LW)
- ACCA:Â Performance Management (PM)
- ACCA:Â Taxation (TX)
- ACCA:Â Financial Reporting (FR)
- ACCA: Audit and Assurance (AA)
- ACCA:Â Financial Management (FM)
- OBU: Research and Analysis Project (RAP)
There are no Optional Subjects.
Duration: 3 academic years
Credits: 360 credits
Intakes: January and July for students undertaking ACCA units. Students who have completed all ACCA units may join the final year (RAP project only) at anytime.
Mode of Study: Face to Face (Male’ Campus only)
Course Assessments
All subjects, except OBU: Research and Analysis Project (RAP), will be assessed by time constrained exams that are set and marked by ACCA, UK. The RAP is research based assignment that is submitted and marked by Oxford Brookes University.
Exemptions
A complete list of exemptions awarded by ACCA for prior learning are listed in the ACCA website. In general students will receive the following two exemptions:
» Students who have completed the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business or ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) course will receive exemptions for the first three papers (FAB, FMA and FFA) from the above list.
» Students who have completed the ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business will receive exemptions for papers LW, PM, TX, FR, AA and FM from the above list.

Pathway
While completing the Oxford Brookes University BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting students can continue to work through to the Professional Level  of the ACCA Qualification.
